Hi! Thank you for your question! On your slow cooker, both high and low stabilize at the same temperature (209°F); it is just a matter of how long it takes to reach the simmer point. On high, it takes approximately 3-4 hours, whereas, on low, it takes approximately 7-8 hours to reach the simmer point. Once food reaches the simmer point, total cook time is dependent on the cut and weight of meat to reach the point of maximum flavor and texture potential. Most dishes can be prepared on either high or low. This is uniform across all of our current models. In the warm setting, your slow cooker will be between 165-175°F. Hello! Thank you for reaching out about the Crock-Pot® 2-Quart Classic Slow Cooker, Small Slow Cooker, Stainless Steel. The small metal tube you see at the bottom is part of the heating element assembly. It helps distribute heat evenly throughout the stoneware, ensuring consistent cooking results. A few tips for safe use: 1. Never place the slow cooker directly on the metal tube, always use the feet to elevate the unit. 2. Keep the area underneath and around the base clear during use for proper ventilation. 3. Avoid submerging the base in water when cleaning; only the removable stoneware and lid are dishwasher-safe. If you have further questions about your slow cooker, please feel free to contact our Consumer Care team directly. https://www.crock-pot.com/support/contact-us Have a nice day! Hello. Thank you for reaching out to us. Please be informed that due to the close proximity between the heating element and the exterior of our slow cookers, it is normal for them to get quite hot on the outside. The heating element actually wraps around the sides of the unit. This is why on both the outside of the unit and in the product's instruction manual we recommend using a hot pad if you need to touch the unit during cooking. If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. We’re available Mon.-Fri. 9am - 5pm Eastern Time. Thank you! Crockpot® Consumer Care
