Hello. Thank you for reaching out to us. The Crock-Pot® MultiMeal Multicooker and Programmable Slow Cooker is a versatile appliance designed to perform multiple cooking functions, including slow cooking, searing/sautéing, steaming, and baking. Searing typically requires direct bottom heat to achieve proper browning, while slow cooking benefits from even, surrounding heat. The MultiMeal's design accommodates these needs to ensure optimal cooking performance across its various settings. If you have any more questions, please reach out to us via our Contact Us form on our website. We’re available Mon.-Fri. 9am - 5pm Eastern Time. Thank you! CrockPot® Consumer Care
