Hello. Thanks for reaching out to us. We will be more than happy to help you. You may need to reset your slow cooker. To do this, simply hold down the POWER and MODE buttons for 30 seconds while it is plugged in. You will then want to unplug the unit and plug it back in. This should resolve the issue you described. The lid is always supposed to be a little bit loose to prevent the stoneware from breaking when it expands because of the heat. The advanced design allows for a more effective release of steam from the cooker, which prevents any buildup of pressure and/or damage to your lid. There should be no concern if you see a small gap between your lid and the crock itself. However, if the gap is wide and concerning, we strongly encourage you to contact us directly for further assistance via https://www.crockpot.com/support/contact-us or through LiveChat. We’re available Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Eastern Time. We will be happy to help you. Thank you! CrockPot Consumer Care
