This is normal for our current line of slow cookers. The heating element for our modern cookers wraps around the entire outer side of the heating base to provide a more thorough and consistent cooking experience. When the product is in use, you should only use the plastic handles on the base to move the product. Thank you.

Both High and Low stabilize at the same temperature (209°F); it is just a matter of how long it takes to reach the simmer point. On High, it takes approximately 3-4 hours, whereas on Low, it takes approximately 7-8 hours to reach the simmer point. Once food reaches the simmer point, total cook time is dependent on cut and weight of meat to reach the point of maximum flavor and texture potential. Most dishes can be prepared on either High or Low. The Warm setting heats to a maximum of approximately 165-175°F. This is uniform across all of our current models. Thank you for your question.
