This model will not put out much heat to the surrounding area. It is however normal for the outside of the base to be hot as the heating elements are actually wrapped around the sides of the unit. We do not recommend touching it while in use as you could potentially harm yourself. You may also want to use a trivet under the slow cooker during use.

Both the low and high settings will reach a maximum temperature of approximately 215° Fahrenheit, but they cycle differently in that the low setting cycles off of that temperature more frequently. Therefore, the high setting will still cook the food in a shorter period of time than the low setting will. On the warm setting, your Crock-Pot™ slow cooker will be between 165 degrees and 175 degrees Fahrenheit. Please remember that these are all approximate temperatures and they can vary depending on what you are cooking. The Crock-Pot slow cooker can also boil on high and low. We do recommend that you always fill your slow cooker at least 2/3 to 3/4 of the way full, including at least one cup of liquid or sauce.

First, plug in your Crock-Pot® slow cooker and select the temperature setting (High or Low). Refer to your specific recipe for precise cook time. Press the “Time” arrows to scroll through the timed cooking options. The time can be set in increments of 30 minutes up to 20 hours. Select the time based on the length of time indicated in the recipe. The time will begin to count down in one minute increments. When the cooking time has completed, the Crock-Pot® slow cooker automatically shifts to the WARM setting and the WARM light illuminates. To turn the Crock-Pot slow cooker off, press the OFF button and unplug the unit from the outlet. -When cooking is done, unplug your slow cooker and allow it to cool before cleaning. Yes, the outside of the slow cooker can get too hot to touch. Extreme caution must be used when moving an appliance containing hot liquids. Always use oven mitts when moving your heated slow cooker.
