Ricotta French Toast Slow Cooker Recipe
Infused with sweet brown sugar and the warm flavors of cinnamon and nutmeg, this elevated version of the classic recipe will have your guests drooling!
Ingredients:
- 1 ½ loaves country white bread (about 1½ pounds)
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ½ cup whole-milk ricotta cheese
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- ¾ cup brown sugar (plus ¼ cup for topping)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon salt
- Unsalted butter for greasing
Instructions:
- Grease the inside of your Crock-Pot® slow cooker generously with butter to prevent sticking.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the eggs, milk, heavy cream, ricotta cheese, vanilla extract, ¾ cup of brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg; whisk together until well blended.
- Add the bread to the slow cooker.
- Pour in the custard and gently toss, then stir to ensure all the bread pieces are coated with the mixture.
- Set the slow cooker to the LOW heat setting.
- Cover, and cook for approximately 2 hours. Cooking times may vary slightly based on the slow cooker model, so check after 1 ½ hours to ensure the French toast is cooking evenly.
- Once the French toast is cooked and set, sprinkle the remaining ¼ cup of brown sugar over the top.
- Cover the slow cooker again, and let it sit for an additional 15 to 30 minutes. This will allow the brown sugar to melt and form a sweet, caramelized topping.
- Serve and enjoy!
