Citrus Chinese Dates with Toasted Hazelnuts Slow Cooker Recipe

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups pitted dates
  • 2/3 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • Strips of peel from 1 lemon (yellow part only)
  • 1/4 cup hazelnuts, shelled and toasted*
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  • *To toast hazelnuts, spread in single layer in heavy skillet. Cook and stir over medium heat 1 to 2 minutes or until nuts are lightly browned.
Instructions:
  1. Place dates in medium bowl; cover with water. Soak overnight to rehydrate. Drain. Remove dates to Crockpot™ slow cooker.
  2. Add 2/3 cup boiling water, sugar and lemon peel to Crockpot™ slow cooker. Cover; cook on HIGH 3 hours.
  3. Remove and discard peel. Place dates in serving dishes. Sprinkle with hazelnuts. Top with whipped cream, if desired.
