This recipe creates about 3 pint jars of pear butter which can be refrigerator and kept for 2 to 3 weeks.
- 12 medium pears
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
- 1 cup apple juice
- 2 whole cinnamon sticks
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon cardamom
- Peel, chop and core pears.
- Add chopped pears to your slow cooker.
- Top with brown sugar and apple juice, stirring gently to coat.
- Add cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, ginger and cardamom.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours.
- Several times throughout, stir the pear butter mixture to ensure even blending.
- Remove cinnamon sticks.
- Transfer half of pear mixture to blender or food processor.
- Pulse until pureed.
- Return blended half of pear butter to slow cooker and stir to combine.
- If a less chunky butter is desired, blend or puree both halves of mixture.
- Once cooled, can pear butter for later use or store in your refrigerator for 2 to 3 weeks.
