3 Chocolate Desserts to Try for Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is approaching quickly, which means it's time to start stocking up on flowers, candy hearts and - of course - chocolate. Whether you're spending the evening with your significant other or you're settling in for a night packed with your girlfriends and an embarrassing collection of Channing Tatum movies, you're going to need to stock up on this Valentine's Day essential to make the most of your night.

Instead of overloading on chocolates from a box, try one of these tasty slow cooker recipes ideal for sharing on Valentine's day. 

1. Chocolate Hazelnut Bread Pudding 
If you're a fan of Nutella (we know you are), you'll love this chocolate hazelnut bread pudding recipe, perfect for serving with your favorite toppings like whipped cream and chocolate chips.

You'll need:

  • 1 loaf cubed bread
  • 5 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup melted chocolate chips
  • 1/2 stick butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon hazelnut extract
  • 2 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups hazelnut coffee creamer
  • 1 cup evaporated milk

Coat your slow cooker with nonstick spray, then add cubed bread to the stoneware. In a large bowl, combine eggs, sugar, milk, vanilla and hazelnut extract. In a separate bowl, mix together melted chocolate chips, cocoa powder and 1 cup of hazelnut coffee creamer. Pour the liquid mix over the bread, followed by the chocolate mix, then use your hands to fold together all ingredients. Cover the slow cooker and allow the pudding to cook for about two hours on high. 

2. Slow Cooker Brownies

You'll need:

  • 2 cups bittersweet chocolate
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

In a small bowl, beat together melted chocolate and softened butter until smooth - you may want to microwave the bowl in 15-second increments until the mixture is ready. Separately, whisk together sugar, eggs and vanilla, then stir in the melted chocolate mix. Add flour and baking soda, and when all ingredients are combined, pour them into your slow cooker - for a rectangular shape, use your Crock-Pot® Casserole Crock Slow Cooker in Cranberry. Allow the brownies to cook for about four to five hours on high. Top with powdered sugar and enjoy!

3. Dark Chocolate Fondue and Banana Pain Perdu
​If you're planning a romantic evening with your loved one, this dark chocolate fondue and banana pain perdu is perfect for dipping pretzels, fruits, marshmallows and graham crackers.

You'll need:

  • 17 1/2 ounces dark chocolate
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 8 1/2 ounces milk
  • 10 1/2 ounces Brioche vendéenne
  • 8 1/2 ounces heavy cream
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 1/3 ounces granulated sugar
  • 5 1/3 ounces bananas

Preheat the oven to 320 degrees. Combine milk, heavy cream, egg yolks and sugar in a bowl and whisk together until smooth. Cut the Brioche vendéenne in small slices, then allow the pieces to soak in the liquid. Slice the bananas, add to the mix, place in an oven dish and allow it to all bake for 20 minutes. In your slow cooker, add dark chocolate and shortening, then set on high until the pieces have melted. Stir the mix continuously to ensure the mix melts properly. Cut your bread into small pieces and dip in your new fondue!
