Tailgating Recipes to Try with Beer

An ordinary football tailgate has food, beer and more food, and that usually sets the stage for a fun-filled time with all your family and friends. However, why be ordinary when you can be extraordinary? Try combining the food and beer with some of these tasty, savory tailgating recipes that feature beer in the ingredients. Your guests will love the distinct taste it produces.

1. Beer Chili
You love chili, and you love beer. Here's how to flawlessly combine the two into a savory, soupy broth with a spicy kick.

You'll Need:

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • Cooking spray
  • 1 29-ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1 29-ounce can kidney beans, undrained
  • 1 29-ounce can pinto beans, undrained
  • 2 cups beer
  • 1 14.5-ounce can diced tomatoes
  • 1 4.5-ounce can chopped green chilies
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened baking cocoa
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese.

In a large saucepan over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned and add diced onion. Remove excess grease from pan. Lightly coat slow cooker with cooking spray. Place beef and onion mixture in slow cooker and add tomato sauce, pinto beans, beer, diced tomatoes, green chilies, chili powder, salt and cocoa. Cover with lid and cook on high for 4 hours. Remove lid and sprinkle on cheese before serving. 

2. Beer and Brown Sugar Pulled Chicken
If you're looking for a sweet and savory dish to complement your tailgate, this recipe is for you. Slowly cook the meat and let it bask in all the flavors of the eclectic ingredients. This is sure to be a dish people can't get enough of.

You'll Need:

  • 1 8-ounce can tomato paste
  • 3 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 12 ounces porter beer
  • 6 boneless skinless chicken thigh fillets
  • 18-20 slider buns.

In a large bowl, mix tomato paste, soy sauce, balsamic, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, paprika, garlic power and brown sugar. Add the mixture, beer and chicken thighs in a slow cooker and cover with lid. Cook on low for 4 hours. Remove lid and shred chicken with a fork, then serve on buns.

3. Chicken and Beer Tacos
Your go-to liquor for this classic Mexican dish might be tequila, but beer works even better. Try this recipe for a unique twist on a crowd favorite.

You'll Need:

  • 4 chicken breasts
  • 1 can of beer
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 can green chilies
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 5 green peppers, chopped
  • 2 large yellow onions, chopped
  • 1 1/2 to 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1/3 cup cider vinegar
  • Tortillas.

Place all ingredients in your slow cooker and cover with lid. Cook on high for 4 hours or until meat is easily pulled apart. Use a fork to pull chicken, then serve on top of a warm tortilla.
