Happy Halloween!

Instead of loading up on candy corn and chocolate bars this Oct. 31, break out a bushel of apples and heat up your slow cooker. Treat your friends and family members to a homemade candy apple bar, stocked with your favorite toppings, sweets and nuts.

Whether you prefer Granny Smith or red delicious apples, be sure to break out your Crock-Pot® Hook Up® Connectable Entertaining System 3-Piece Set, as you'll need as many slow cookers as you can get to hold your favorite fixings.

Chocolate and Caramel and Candy, Oh My!
Before you can add treats to your apple, you need to dip it in a base coat of something sweet - consider the following slow cooker coats from Crock-Pot® Brand Ambassador Jenn Bare herself.

If you prefer the richness of chocolate, opt for this homemade fondue. Mix 18 ounces of chopped semisweet chocolate, 1 ounce of chopped unsweetened chocolate, 13 ounces of evaporated milk and 1/4 cup powdered sugar in first unit of your Crock-Pot® Hook Up® Connectable Entertaining System. After stirring the ingredients, cover the slow cooker and allow it sit on low for 45 minutes. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla, then allow the fondue to sit low for another hour or until you're ready to serve!

Got a craving for more conventional caramel apples? Place two 14 ounce packages of caramel candies in the slow cooker along with 1/4 cup of water. Cover and cook on high for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, stirring constantly. Keep the slow cooker on low as you serve, stirring the caramel so it doesn't get stuck to the sides.

No Tricks, Just Treats
Once you've prepped one unit with chocolate fondue and another with caramel, it's time to dip your apples. Begin by removing the stems and firmly pressing a stick into the apples' cores. Dip the apple in either the chocolate or the caramel, then place it on a sheet of greased wax paper, allowing it to cool. After a few minutes - when the topping is partially dried - place your desired fixings on a plate and roll the apple, allowing it to pick up a generous coating.

If you're serving these delicious treats at a party, consider setting up a station that allows individuals to dip their own apples in the coating and toppings of their choice. Place different bowls with various chopped nuts, chocolate chips, sprinkles, crushed cookies and coconut shavings around the slow cookers, allowing guests to pick their favorites.

Due to the slow ramp up, and even heating of a slow cooker, recipes featured on this site can be cooked in a range of slow cooker sizes. Recipes can be increased or decreased by one quart size per the cooking instructions. For smaller sauces and dips that calls for 3 quarts or less, it is not recommended to alter the unit size. Crock-Pot® is a registered trademark and should not be used generically when referring to a 'slow cooker' within the recipes.
