Slow Cooking and Spices: What You Need to Know

One of the best things about making slow-cooked dishes is the versatility in spices, herbs and seasonings. The next time you plan to whip up a savory dish in your Crock-Pot® Lift & Serve Hinged Lid 6-Quart Oval Slow Cooker, consider these helpful tips and seasoning recipes:

Garlic
When it comes to slow cooking, there's no such thing as too much garlic - just take the chicken with 40 cloves garlic recipe for example. In fact, according to a number of cooking connoisseurs, slow cooking garlic produces its best flavor. Often, when cooked by other means, the garlic does not have enough time to unravel its true smooth and rich flavor. Slow cooking garlic in or with olive oil - known as allowing the garlic to "mellow" - helps to break it down and deliver a real soft and even flavor.

Soup Mixes and Dressing Packets
A great trick for fast and easy slow cooker recipes is to use packets of dried soup mix in your dishes. Keeping a stash of dried soup mixes in your cupboard can be very helpful when you want to prepare a slow cooker meal in 10 minutes or less. Like powders and pastes, dried soup mixes or salad dressing packets such as French onion or Ranch can make it easy to bring lots of mouthwatering flavor to any dish you're preparing.

DIY Seasonings:
While the aforementioned soup mixes are quick and convenient, some prefer to have a bit more freedom when crafting the perfect seasoning. If you're someone who really enjoys experimenting in the kitchen, you'll love these homemade recipes for a variety of common seasonings. By opting to make them yourself, you can control exactly how garlic-y or spicy your seasonings are.
