Bacon-Wrapped Barbecue Apple Chicken Bites

Bacon-Wrapped Barbecue Apple Chicken Bites
For your next dinner party, give this mouth-watering apple barbecue chicken and bacon recipe a try. The chicken bites cook easily in the larger 3.5-quart crock of your slow cooker, while two different barbecue sauces for dipping can slow cook on top in the 1.5-quart crocks.

Ingredients:

  • 6 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/5 cup lemon juice, fresh or from a bottle
  • 5 small apples, peeled and chopped
  • 9 slices bacon

Directions

  1. Slice chicken breast into small, bite-sized pieces.
  2. Wrap each piece in a half slice of bacon.
  3. In a bowl, combine barbecue sauce, brown sugar, lemon juice and apples.
  4. Place each bacon-wrapped piece of chicken in the bottom of your slow cooker.
  5. Pour the barbecue sauce mixture on top.
  6. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours, until chicken is done.
  7. Serve with tooth picks and two barbecue sauces.

Slow-Cooked Barbecue Sauce
Make this traditional barbecue sauce in one of the 1.5-quart slow cookers to dip the chicken bites in!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1/2 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon celery salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground mustard
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 1/2 tablespoon cider vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Directions

  1. Add all ingredients to 1.5-quart crock and mix well.
  2. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours.
  3. Whisk well before serving.

Smoky Hot Barbecue Sauce
To give your guests variety, slow cook this spicier barbecue sauce in the other 1.5-quart crock of your slow cooker. With a richer flavor that has a bit of a kick to it, it pairs great with the sweet and savory bacon-wrapped chicken bites.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unflavored, unsalted tomato puree (not crushed tomatoes)
  • 1/4 cups white or apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder 
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke (optional)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika (sweet or smoky, though smoky is recommended if you're not using the liquid smoke)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt

Directions

  1. In your slow cooker, mix tomato puree, vinegar, molasses, soy sauce and mustard.
  2. Add in remaining ingredients and mix together until well combined.
  3. Cover and cook on high for 3 1/2 to 4 hours.
  4. Sauce should be dark and thick when finished.
