Slow Cooker Dishes Inspired By Your Favorite Fictional Chefs

Some of the most famous chefs on television may not be real, but their on-screen culinary concoctions can be easily brought into the world with a little finesse and slow cooker magic. If you're a fan of the following cooks, you're in luck - try one of these tasty recipes next time you're channeling your inner chef.

1. Monica Geller's Tantalizing Tomato Sauce
Toss this sauce on top of your pasta or use it to layer in a lasagna. Either way, you'll make Monica from "Friends" proud.

You'll need:

  • 1 28-ounce can peeled tomatoes
  • 1 14.5-ounce can diced tomatoes
  • 1 14.5-ounce can tomato puree
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cloves crushed garlic
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • Fresh basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
Coat the bottom of your slow cooker with nonstick spray. Add all of your ingredients, then stir until they're well-blended. Cook on low for about 5 to 6 hours, or on high for 3 to 4. Stir each hour to prevent onion from sticking to the bottom of the stoneware.

2. Po's Slow Cooker Noodle Soup
He may have left the family restaurant to pursue his dreams of becoming the Dragon Warrior, but Po from "Kung Fu Panda" knew his way around noodle soup.

You'll need:

  • 3 cups uncooked wide egg noodles
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped carrots
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small roasted chicken
  • 8 cups chicken broth
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
Tear meat apart from your roasted chicken, then add to your slow cooker. Add remaining ingredients to the stoneware, stirring to ensure the dish is well combined. Cover and cook for about 4 to 5 hours on high, or 6 to 7 hours on low. 

3. Tiana's Jam-packed Gumbo
Some Disney princesses sit around all day waiting for the man of their dreams, but Tiana had a different dream worth chasing. "The Princess and the Frog" star just wanted to treat the world to her high-quality cooking, including the New Orleans staple, gumbo.

You'll need:

  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 pound shrimp
  • 1 14.5-ounce can of diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1 pound Polish sausage, chopped into small pieces
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 red pepper, diced
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1 chopped carrot
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons dried thyme
  • 1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
In a medium-sized skillet, combine olive oil, cornstarch and sausage. Whisk ingredients together for about 3 to 4 minutes, until cornstarch begins to turn brown. Immediately remove from heat. Add chicken broth and tomatoes to the slow cooker, then whisk cornstarch mixture in the slow cooker. Stir in shrimp, onion, pepper, celery, carrot, herbs and spices. Cover the slow cooker and allow gumbo to cook for 4 hours on high, or 6 hours on low. Serve over prepared rice.

Due to the slow ramp up, and even heating of a slow cooker, recipes featured on this site can be cooked in a range of slow cooker sizes. Recipes can be increased or decreased by one quart size per the cooking instructions. For smaller sauces and dips that calls for 3 quarts or less, it is not recommended to alter the unit size.
