How to Make Slow Cooker Glazed Ham
Ham dinners don't need to stop after Easter. It's the perfect meat for a no-fuss meal, as it requires very little prep time but still satisfies appetites and acts as a great comfort food. Here's a simple, tasty recipe to start with. Be sure to whip up some easy side dishes, like potatoes and corn, to tie it all together.
- 6-8 pound unsliced bone-in ham
- 1 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of dark brown sugar
- 1/2 cup of pure maple syrup
- 1 1/2 cup fresh pineapple, cut into chunks
- Freshly ground pepper to taste
Start by cutting off the skin and excess fat from the meat. Slice a grid-like pattern along the outside of the ham so it heats up evenly and deeply absorbs the glaze. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and maple syrup until they are completely combined. Liberally brush the glaze on the meat and drizzle the remainder over the top. Prepare your Crock-Pot® Manual Slow Cooker by lightly coating it with cooking spray, then pour in the water to keep the meat from drying out. Place the ham in the slow cooker and arrange pineapple chunks on top of it. Cook on low for 6 hours. Every few hours, be sure to baste the meat in the cooking juices for even more moisture and flavor.
After 6 hours, insert a meat thermometer into the center of the ham. When it reads 140 degrees, it's ready to be removed from the heat. Preheat your oven broiler, then place the ham inside for 5-7 minutes so the outside gets slightly crispy. Remove from the oven when the glaze caramelizes, then slice into thin pieces. Serve immediately alongside your delectable side dishes for a classic ham dinner that your family will love.
