3 Ways to Mix Up Your Mac & Cheese
Slow cooker macaroni and cheese is one of the easiest dishes you can prepare. This filling comfort food doesn't require many ingredients, but there are several ways you can mix it up to make the most of your meal.
After preparing a batch of Crock-Pot Girl™ Jenn Bare's slow cooker macaroni and cheese, consider altering the recipe as such to enrich the taste of the dish.
1. Add Meat
Place a bit of protein in your pasta by slicing up your favorite meat and tossing it in the mix. For a smoky taste, fry or grill four to five hot dogs, the slice them in small pieces. Before you spoon the macaroni mixture into your slow cooker, stir the hot dog pieces into the bowl.

Alternatively, if you're not a big fan of pork, you can make your own macaroni and cheeseburger dish by browning some ground beef and tossing it in the mix.
2. Spice It Up
Add a little bite to your batch by adding in spices that will intrigue your senses. When combining ingredients, add 1 clove minced garlic, 1/2 cup diced onion, 1/4 cup jalapeno peppers, 1 teaspoon cumin and 1/2 teaspoon paprika. Test your batch before you cook it - if you find that it's too spicy, add 1 cup of diced tomatoes. These vegetables will absorb some of that spice and make the dish much milder.
3. Deep Fry It
Throw a Southern spin on your macaroni and cheese by frying it. Sound difficult? Don't worry - it's not.
Refrigerate your macaroni and cheese overnight, then cut the dish into squares. In a small bowl, crack four eggs and add a splash of milk. Dip the squares in the bowl, then place it in a bag of flour. Fry each square with vegetable oil, then allow them to drain on paper towels.
